Diversity Pipeline Collaborative
About the Pipeline
The education pipeline extends from preschool to the profession, sometimes referred to as P20. For their to be a diverse profession requires a qualified and interested pool of applicants to approach the law school gates, be admitted, pass the bar exam, join and stay in the profession. The pipeline, however, is broken at almost every juncture and the achievement gap between white and Asian students and their African American, American Indian and Alaskan Native and Hispanic counterparts endures . Repair requires a long-term and serious commitment and building out of programs with demonstrated records of success. For more background, chicago5rev, (View as notes pages for handout version.)
Wingspread Information and Papers
Wingspread’s history is one of extraordinary collaboration, starting with law-school centered teams and branching out to other educators and researchers and the profession. For a summary, see Wingspread delivered and deliverable2, and for background reports, Wingspread i-v, Wingspread VI Report, Wingspread VII. The most recent Wingspread event was the Pipeline Showcase, held in conjunction with the 16th Annual Education Law Conference in Portland Maine in the summer of 2009. The Showcase offered pipeline programs with documented success an opportunity to present and share with each other and with a wider audience in a “how to” session on replication.
As Wingspread moves forward under its new name it will be looking to build on past collaborations and successes, including further joint work with other professions.
